NZ Institute of Architects described this as a holiday home that displays the well-honed skills of a practice that completely understands how to create simple yet excellent spatial experiences. Glazing lines were set away from external skins, creating shadows under an apparently eave-less form, and giving the appearance of a continuously open structure.
NZIA noted the expertly crafted pavilion references American West Coast houses of the 1960s with its unique paving, compact planning and circular steel columns; at the same time, it is a distinctly contemporary addition to Herbst Architects’ body of work.

NZ Institute of Architects described this new home build as a graceful and elegant house, where the architects had to create their own parameters. The paddock setting offered no topographical conditions to work with or against, and it was up to the architecture to establish the site. Divided into quadrants around two axes, the house makes its stand but never gets bogged down. The architects had the confidence to risk the centrifugal effect of a big flat landscape by projecting a series of screened box forms. The detailing is excellent, the entry is intriguing and the whole composition is beguiling.

Luxury renovation of a Sydney townhouse, including large open plan living extension highlighted by a pop up roof line with expansive glass panels in the ceiling.
This was a heritage townhouse requiring a near full gut job complimented by the huge extension featuring beautifully finished timber floors, open plan living and a fully optioned clean and contempory chef's kitchen.
Thoughtfully integrated outdoor spaces make the most of the indoor outdoor flow and established landscaping.
